The Lint Slide Grid was developed in the
mid-1970's following the introduction of universal density
cotton bales. Gins already used moist air for seed cotton
conditioning (the Humidaire Unit was invented in 1957 for that
purpose) and wanted to see if applying moist air to lint would
reduce hydraulic pressures at the press. The moist air did
reduce the hydraulic pressures and 30 years later, the Lint
Slide Grid is still an effective and economical applicator used
by many gins. This is especially true for smaller gins taking
their first steps with moist air technology.
The Lint Slide Grid applies moist air through a series of
stainless steel louvers as the batt flows from the battery
condenser to the press. A Humidaire Unit supplies the moist
air to a false bottom underneath the louvers. Replacing the lint
slide is not necessary as a grid assembly fits inside the
existing slide.
Many smaller gins can use a single Humidaire
Unit to supply both a Grid and Conditioning Hoppers at the same
time. As the gin grows, a late model Humidaire Unit can then be
used with a Steamroller, preserving a large part of the gin's
investment. |
