Samuel Jackson has utilized Electric Banjos for
many years to maintain robust air for high air volume pull-through
drying. Until recent years, VFDs or Variable Frequency Drives sized
to handle the horsepower requirements of large fan/motor
combinations have been very expensive. Currently, VFD prices are at
more justifiable level and cotton gins are starting to use them for
the same reason gins have used Banjos for years...consistent air
volume to improve drying performance and efficiency!
The Air Control 8 (AC-8) presents the ginner with
easy to understand information about fan speeds that do not require
reading the manual or calling your electrician every time you would
like to make an adjustment. The AC-8 can remotely monitor and adjust
up to 8 Banjos or VFDs and some gins are using it to control other
VFDs in their gin. It also interfaces with the Moisture Mirror 3X
and 4X, so an operator can monitor and adjust Banjos or VFDs from
the console.
Note: Banjo IIs are still available and quite
popular for high air volume drying. The AC-8 was designed to give
ginners a choice. Essentially Banjos and VFDs perform the same task,
but the former does it mechanically and the latter does it
electrically. To learn more about Banjos, see the links on the
right. To learn more about VFDs, you should consult your electrician
as brands, models and features will vary.
